A Perfectly Written Example Of An Essay About Mobile Phone

Since 1973, when Motorola produced a mobile phone that could be carried by hand, this item has undergone considerable advancements. From only being able to send and receive phone calls, a mobile phone now is used to search the World Wide Web, plays games, and accesses a number of other applications.

History

A mobile phone is regarded as a telephone that is portable or mobile, hence the name. The first major efforts to produce such a device began after the Second World War.

The first major development was by Bell System’s Mobile Telephone Service. However, the calls made were not cellular, but were quiet costly.

As we mentioned above, it was in 1973 when Motorala presented the first handheld mobile phone. It was not until 1983, however, that handheld mobile phones were available in the market.

At first, mobile phones could only make phone calls. In 1992, however, the first SMS message was sent. 6 years later, users could download ring tones. This was shortly followed by other developments in media content.

The applications available continued to evolve, adding calendars, clocks, and games to the list. Then, finally, in the year 2000, the Ericsson R380 was released, the first mobile phone marketed as a “smart phone”.

Uses of mobile phones today

Mobile phones have evolved to such an extent, that two main types have emerged. The first being ‘feature phones’ and the second being ‘smart phones’.

A feature phone is a term usually used to describe the low-end phones of the modern age. Such phones only possess basic functionality, such as the ability to call and text, minimal multimedia interaction, and customized software. Furthermore, it tends to lack third-party applications.

Smart phones, on the other hand, are far more advanced. They don’t possess a customized software or user interface, but rather, they run by use of a mobile operating system. They are almost always touchscreen, with a color display and graphical interface. Additionally, smart phones run a multitude of applications. On top of possessing a feature phone’s applications, such as phone calls and texting, smart phones can be used as personal digital assistants, digital cameras, media players, and the ability to connect to Wifi, and much, much more.

Popularity

Mobile phones are immensely popular. According to most research facilities, out of the estimated 7 billion people who live in this world, around 6 billion own at least one mobile phone. In fact, other studies conclude that there are more mobile phones in the world than humans. In 2014, there were about 7.2 billion mobile phones in the world, compared to the world’s population of 7-7.1 billion. What’s more is that the number of mobile phones is expected to increase at a rate of five times as much as the rate at which the human population is growing.
